Round 2 against Glen Iris was played in hot conditions at Eric Raven Reserve. We arrived and saw that the wicket was as hard as a rock but severely affected by use the previous day. Amazingly, we lost the toss and were sent in to bat in what were the better batting conditions of the day. It didn’t start too well for us when Sonny played over the top of a pull shot and lost the top of his bail (FOW 12).

Rick and Garry steadied the ship and took the score to 67 in fairly good time until Garry was caught trying to move things on. Drinks were taken and the next ten overs displayed some poor cricket losing 3 wickets for just 19 runs including two run-outs. Sonny had steam coming out of his ears!!

In the final tens overs the wicket did not improve but Ricky (88*) and Swampy steadied us for a while to get through to 8/148 at stumps. Ali and Jonny tried their best coming out swinging and fell on the sword in the name of the team.

Sonny felt that the par score would have been around 180 and we needed a really tight bowling performance. That was exactly what he got. V Bomber is currently the Captains pet taking 3/5 off 6 overs (including 2 wides), V Bomber!!!!!!!

Brocky made a welcome return with 2/9 off 6 and bowling tidy lines. Swampy put in another great bowling performance but wasn’t able to take a wicket to open his season account (0/10 off 5). Evo and Garry each took a wicket in a tight bowling performance, as Swampy was the only bowler to go above double figures. Congratulations must go to Ali and Priyan who both took their first wickets for O.C.C.C.

Glen Iris 10/59 off 32 overs.

The thing the 2nd XI should take away from this game is that we got the 6 points in a performance that had room for even further improvement, especially with the bat. Well done, make sure you get to training.
